We ask you to give us time to discuss joint programs and plans to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to give the Sheremetevs, along with other employees and members of our Agency in the Russian Federation, appropriate privileges and immunities, as is the case with the staff of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in accordance with the provisions of the Treaty concluded by them with the Russian Federation 24 June 1992.
Our agency, like the ICRC, is registered in Switzerland. Our headquarters are located in the neighborhood (Geneva, Switzerland). We have equal status and international legal personality, having consultative status with the UN ECOSOC. However, the ICRC is older than us “by age” and its leadership consists exclusively of Swiss citizens (this is a requirement of its Charter). Our leaders are citizens of the Russian Federation or immigrants from Russia.
Due to these circumstances, we decided to follow the example of the ICRC and conclude an agreement with the Russian Foreign Ministry, similar to the one mentioned above. We express our confidence, dear Elena Gennadievna, that our request will not be too burdensome for you.
