Edwin Babbitt’s Three Types of Harmony
Edwin D. Babbitt is an American Medium XIX The author of the famous book "Principles of light and color" (1878 A partial translation of which is available today in English. In this book, among other things, Edwin Babbitt proposed the structure of the atom, which is still discussed by adherents of alternative currents in science and sacred geometry. Here is a partial translation of his earlier book, The Health Guide 1874 Mr. Publications. The translation is only the first 20- from 247 paragraphs. About the unique personality and works of Edwin Babbitt and the reasons for interest in his work should make a separate article, now I will explain only the reason for the translation of the first 20- those paragraphs. The fact is that they cite the three laws of harmony that underlie the structure of the world, according to Edwin Babbitt’s cosmogony. The laws of harmony have been studied since the time of the philosophers of ancient Greece, it was devoted to the huge work of Johannes Kepler, great attention was paid to Walter Russell and many other mediums, scientists and enthusiasts, and in this sense Babbitt’s works are of particular interest. In addition, this passage also indicates some "two ethereal streams", the concept of which is very similar to the concept of two streams of light Walter Russell, cited in many of his works, translations of which are also available in the blog. Babbitt also focuses on the practical application of his ideas in order to effectively treat people, gives specific recommendations and describes the results of experiments. I hope readers will be interested to see another prominent mystic XIX Centuries.
Health Guide. Translation. Part I. Philosophy of treatment.
1.
It's order. During its long journey, mankind has become so corrupted by false medical, political and religious beliefs that because of the veil they have formed, they can hardly consider anything, let alone do anything serious, to break out of these fetters. Are the few poor people who can see the truth doomed to continue to suffer and die while remaining unheard?
2.
Medications. In all medical schools there are noble fathers who are able to follow their intuition, rise above old dogmas and effectively treat. I extend a hand of friendship to these people. But when I think of the millions of unfortunates whose joints have lost flexibility, their blood has been poisoned, their nerves have been damaged, and their entire bodies have been plagued by the wrong treatment, I want to cry loudly and beg our doctors to open their eyes and stop rejecting new ideas with the usual cries of fraud and charlatanism. Medical journals report that the side effects of using mercury as a medicine lead to the appearance of fifty-one types of diseases! Today in free circulation are and are prescribed by doctors a lot of drugs and other poisons, leading to innumerable consequences for the health of patients! Look at what people say about their profession who are not afraid to tell the truth:
"In nine cases out of ten, the drugs we prescribe are more harmful than beneficial," d. Jameson, Edinburgh.
"Unfortunately, in medicine there is no less quackery than outside it," Prof. Baker (Barker).
“How rarely does our medicine manage to do something useful! How often do we hurt our patients? I’m not afraid to say this, but without a doctor, patients recover more often than with him, ”says d. Ramage, Fellow, Royal College of Medicine, London.
"Three-quarters of all humanity dies from the drugs prescribed by doctors," says Dr. Titus, Counsellor of the Court. Dresden.
If we add to these striking admissions the opinion of such great luminaries of medicine as Dr. Rusé, Sir Ashley Cooper, Dr. Duhaussay, prof. Valentine Mott, Dr. Abernethy and many others, it will become clear that something is wrong in modern medicine. Can it not be assumed in this situation that most of the efforts of medical scientists to date have been directed in the wrong direction? Let’s look around to find some new basis on which we could build a super-structure of new medicine. Two fundamental laws can serve as such a basis: the Law of Force and the Law of Harmony.
3.
Law of force. The energy potential of an element is directly proportional to the degree of its refinement. In other words: TONS OF POWER, DEALS OF WEAKNESS. Material elements such as rocks or the earth itself are in silly inertia, accumulating a negative reactive force of resistance. Water is lighter and thinner than the earth, but it is able to dissolve it, it is able to compress stones. Air is 800 times lighter than water, but in an excited state can turn the ocean into a spray cloud, can lift and throw rocks and trees to the ground. The steam is even thinner, but it can tear the earth from the inside, as during earthquakes. Electricity is an even more refined substance, but it is under his leadership that stars and planets rush into space in their orbits. It is capable of shifting stellar nebulae of enormous size. As we rise higher in sophistication, we will come to our Life Aura, the obedient servant of our soul. It is so thin that it is able to penetrate through any things and even control electricity. Next we will ascend to the realm of spirit, in which we will meet the first human spirit, then the angelic, then the archangelic, and finally to the Infinite Spirit, the Ruler and First Cause of the Universe! Thus, as we leave the gross and impure and ascend into the heavenly subtle vaults, the energy potential will only grow.
4.
Centuries ago, medical scientists chose the law of Weakness instead of the law of Force. The highest among all observed beings, man, the link between the earth and the cosmos, was fed minerals and other derivatives of the earth, lying at the very bottom of the scale of subtlety. Even animals rarely go so low in their food choices. A person who combines the best and most blessed elements should choose to eat similar to them, should return to his natural food environment.
5.
orthodox arguments. As a response, doctors usually say the following: "The human body includes minerals and needs to consume them in order to maintain the required level of minerals in the body." It is true that our body has mineral elements, but compared with the rest of the elements, their volume is negligible (see paragraph 80). Seeing that minerals are too poorly absorbed by the digestive system, nature created a plant kingdom on their basis. In addition, the elements that have the strongest impact on the human body are generally beyond all chemical analyzes. It is these subtle elements that control the nerves, blood and muscles. Without them, our body is just a lump of dead dust, which even the strongest chemical substance in the world cannot revive. To solve the problem, you need to work with the causes, and not do research on their multiple consequences.
6.
Baron Reichenbach (here we are talking about Karl von Reichenbach (1788-1869), a chemical scientist, held at the Prussian Academy of Sciences - approx. In humans, the presence of such emanations was recorded much more clearly than in inanimate objects. He called these emanations the “Odinical Power” (Odin, the supreme god in Norse and Germanic mythology). After all this, it did not occur to doctors that it would be a good idea to examine these subtle forces in more detail in order to better understand the work of our circulatory system and find ways to adjust its work. "The mechanism of circulation," says Dr. Buchanan, "has been deeply studied, but our knowledge of the mechanics of circulation, obtained by Harvey and his successors, tells us nothing of the law to which the flow of blood in our veins is subject. Knowledge of our channels and the operation of the hydraulic apparatus without knowledge of the forces behind their work and regulating the process of blood distribution is very scarce information.
7.
The Law of Harmony establishes a balanced combination of elements. This is the basic law of interaction between matter and mind, characterizing the basic principles of their functioning. However, it should always be kept in mind that the principles of a balanced combination of elements cannot be considered in isolation from the principles of unity and diversity. If we proceed from their correct understanding of the basic principles, then we will not make such mistakes in the process of constructing our super-structure. Furthermore, we will not be able to objectively consider any aspect of nature in isolation from the rest of its aspects, so I will expand my narrative somewhat. There are three types of harmonic combinations: affinity, analog and gradient.
8.
Affinity harmony consists in a combination of different qualities, like chemical affinity. (Affinity or chemical affinity is a quantitative expression of the ability of substances to combine and form stable chemical compounds. Similar chemicals are those that easily enter into compounds with each other. It should be noted that Walter Russell explained the reasons for the different degree of chemical affinity between the elements of their different position in the octave wave. According to Russell's theory, elements are easier to combine with each other at normal temperature if they occupy opposite positions at an equal pressure level. For example, sodium (Na) in the octave wave is in position "+1" (see figure below), respectively all the elements in the entry "-1", and these are phosphorus, chlorine, bromine, iodine and astat, form stable compounds with it. In the Mendeleev table, these substances are halogens and are also combined into one group. Accordingly, in relation to sodium, they have a high degree of chemical affinity, but are opposed to each other in quality (opposite position in the octave wave). Thus, the opinion of two mediums - Edwin Babbitt and Walter Russell here coincide.)
Walter Russell's periodical system of chemical elements from The Mystery of Light (1947). Babbitt's book is not included.
The effect of this type of harmony is inspiring, here are just a few examples:
COLOR. Red goes well with green, yellow with purple, blue with orange, red-grey with green-grey and so on. These harmonic and complementary combinations were first described by Chevreul of France. (Here we are talking about the purely French organic chemist Michele Chevreul (1786-1889), who developed a chromatic circle consisting of 72 pure colors, which were based on six basic colors in twelve modifications.
FORMS. Harmonious unification of lines should occur at a certain angle, such as on the spires of buildings. Another example of a harmonious combination of straight and curved lines, in which they begin to harmoniously complement each other, are flowers, or Gothic architecture, etc. In forms, it is important to combine with a large difference in size and proportions, as in the wonderful landscape combinations of mountains and valleys between them.
MUSICAL NOTES. Contrast the consecutive combination of the top and bottom notes in the melody, or their simultaneous sound, as in harmony. To achieve a sound combination of phrases, it is necessary to create equal combinations of vowels and consonants that are in opposition to each other. An example of this combination is Italian.
TASTE. Enjoyment of taste largely depends on the presence of a combination of opposites in it, such as a combination of sour and sweet in lemonade and other drinks, a combination of bitter and sweet in coffee, etc.
History. Combination in speech antithesis, etc.
SOCIUM. Harmonious combination of opposite sexes or complementary qualities of the same sex.
9.
Strength. The surrounding and acting on all forces can be divided into positive and negative. These terms are not always correctly applicable, but I do not know more accurate variants of names. Positive forces are characterized by aggression, pressure, warmth, etc. Negative forces are more passive, cold and inert. In this case, in combination with positive forces, they can cause heat and excitement. Our health and life itself are the result of a combination of opposites. It is impossible to treat diseases without taking this fact into account. In the list below, the first words are positive and the second are negative:
- Fire - Ice or cold water.
- Heat is cold.
- Magnetism - Electricity (battery charge).
- Vital magnetism - Vital electricity (human aura).
- Spirit is matter.
- Acids are alkalis.
- The anterior lobe of the brain is the posterior lobe of the brain (psychologically).
- The back lobe of the brain is the front lobe of the brain (psychologically).
- Oxygen - Nitrogen (united in the air).
- Oxygen is hydrogen (united in water).
- The head of man is the breast and limbs.
- The right side is the left side and the back.
- Light is darkness.
10.
Similar harmony consists in a combination of similar qualities, but in different levels or positions. Cohesion attraction, under the action of which particles of matter are coupled, forming copper or zinc, for example, clearly demonstrates to us the principle of analogical harmony in action. (Cohesion is called the force of adhesion of the smallest particles of substances, for example molecules, atoms or ions, under the influence of the forces of attraction. Cohesion is a combination of forces of intermolecular interaction. - Approx. per.) In contrast to it, the forces connecting copper and zinc in the form of brass are a consequence of affinity harmony or chemical affinity. The following are examples of analogous harmony:
COLOR. Light blue or dark blue, or a lighter or darker shade of the same color, or the same shades of different colors combined together.
FORMS. Parallelism of lines, symmetry, etc.
MUSICAL NOTES. Notes of one octave or notes obtained from similar instruments.
TASTE. Different levels of intensity of the same taste.
RITORICS. Application of comparisons, style unity of presentation, etc.
SOCIUM. The coincidence of taste preferences in different people, even if they like different intensity of the same taste, etc.
FORCE. The positive and negative characteristics of forces can be applied not only to quality as in the previous example, but also to quantity. A large amount is positive in relation to a small amount of the same nature. Suppose we have two buckets, the first one is half filled and the second one is full of water. If you tie these two buckets together, the water from the full bucket will begin to flow into the half-empty until the balance is established.
Comment. Allortopia in chemistry expresses the difference between bodies that are identical in composition. (The property of allotropy means the possibility of the existence of different forms of the same substance, due either to the different state of molecules or their different positions in the crystal lattice. - Approx.) So charcoal, graphite or diamond are allotropic states of the same element - carbon. Similarly, oxygen or its more intense magnetic state - ozone - is an allotropic state of the same substance. Here we observe an analogous and possibly affine harmony.
11.
Gradient harmony or Gradation is a beautiful progression from one quantity or quality to another. Its effect has a calming and pleasant effect.
COLOR. A mixture of colors, or in other words, a gradient transition from one shade to another, as in a rainbow, or from light to dark, as in beautiful natural landscapes or fine art.
FORMS. Gradual change of direction, as in curves, or change of size, as in proportions of different parts of human limbs.
MUSICAL NOTES. Crescendo, diminuendo, curves, etc. (Crescendo is a gradual increase in the power of sound, the transition from a quiet sound to a loud one. The opposite dynamic shade of crescendo is called diminuendo. By curves is meant the gradient transition between different sounds.
RITORICS. The use of accents, extended expression of ideas, etc.
SOCIUM. A restrained manifestation of emotions, pleasant notes in the voice, a soft attitude to troubles, etc.
FORCE. Man is unable to recreate the immeasurable complexity of natural gradients. Nature tends to soften any sharp transitions by gradual progression. Such a great chemical force as light tends to fade gradually with the sunset and gradually intensify in the morning with its sunrise. With more drastic changes, the likelihood of going blind would be much higher. Seasons, storms and blizzards begin and end gradually. A sudden transition from winter to summer or back would certainly destroy all life.

12.
Application in practice. Affinity harmony is active in strong contrasts and gives the most invigorating effect, the results of which the perception is so aggravated that it allows you to feel an internal rise. By analogy, gradient harmony provides a gentle velvety effect that we feel as grace or beauty. While analogical harmony provides an unshakable foundation that binds the world into a single whole. However, only a simultaneous combination of all three types of harmonies will have the most beneficial effect. To wake up from sleep, a contrast shower is best suited, when after a warm bath, you wrap yourself with cold water. Here, water plays the role of analogic harmony, and the combination of hot and cold is affinity. Turkish baths are so effective because they combine all three types of harmony. First, a gradient transition from warm bathrooms to hotter ones, in which the air acts as an analog element, and then a contrast transition from heat to cold, when dipping into a cold bath. Gradient transitions are most suitable for subtle sensitive people. When playing sports, you need to follow the immutable law of a gradual increase in loads day after day. A sharp transition to heavy loads can only be applied in extreme cases. The opposite is true, if you are used to playing sports, then a sharp rejection of exercise can have harmful consequences for health. It can be difficult to abruptly abandon the use of opium, chewing tobacco or drinking alcohol. However, if you combine this procedure with magnetism and fresh air, then the rejection of bad habits can be much more comfortable and will not return to them.
The list of positive and negative factors given in paragraph 9 can be applied in many areas. For example, if your stomach and the entire digestive system is cold and negative, what would be better to apply to correct it: alkali or acid, or magnetism or electricity? Effectively apply negative positive qualities, acid and magnetism. Conversely, what is better to use when the temperature rises or inflammation? Alkali and electricity, what for a person, what for a battery. It is recommended to take inside only the purest elements, but the use of potassium as an alkali, salt of wine stone (acid wine-potassium salt, a popular source of acid in baking powder - approx. per.), etc. can have a detrimental effect on the body. Therefore, to improve health, it is recommended to use more refined and powerful elements, which I will briefly mention in the following paragraphs. "Oxygen," says Attfield's Chemistry, "is the most common element in nature, in various combinations involved in almost half the weight of the globe." Faraday noted its magnetic nature.
13.
Great natural forces. There are two types of ether, penetrating through all space and all objects in it. These two types differ from each other in the opposite laws of motion. The first type produces a heating effect and therefore can be called positive or magnetic. The second produces a cooling effect and can therefore be called negative or electric. They exist in countless combinations and degrees of refinement, extending from the grossest matter to the most refined emanations of the spirit.
14.
Quality of airflows. Magnetism is characterized by softness and a tendency to move inward, that is, centripetally. Electricity is more sharply and excited and tends to expand outward, or centrifugally. Without the combination of these elements, any movement and even life itself would be impossible. Their equilibrium combination forms harmony, when disturbed balance, this combination creates perturbations throughout the living and non-living world. (The combination of centrifugal and centripetal forces was written a lot by Walter Russell, calling both these flows electrical, having a fixed magnetic source. He also pointed out that the combination of the two streams should be balanced, and that they form the same octave wave from which all known and unknown to us chemical elements are formed - constituent parts of matter. It is noteworthy that according to the concept of Walter Russell flows have a vortex or spiral nature (see figure below). Edwin Babbitt’s model of the atom is also completely helical, and in this the opinion of two mediums separated by almost half a century coincides. The spiral model of the atom was also mentioned in Annie Besant's book Occult Chemistry, with an open reference to Edwin Babbett. Medium Charles Webster Leadbitter, able to "see" the structure of matter, gave the source material for this book. He, like Edwin Babbitt, "saw" atoms of the same spiral structure, but pointed out that there are two types of them, with different directions of vortices. The concept of two streams is also found in Taoism (Yin and Yang), Hinduism (three gonas, two of which Rajas and Tattva are similar in their principle of action with two streams, and the third - Sattva - is a fixed equilibrium principle, like the magnetic source of Light Walter Russell), etc. In modern physics and quantum mechanics, no confirmation of the ideas of these authors has been found.
The centrifugal and centripetal flows of Walter Russell. This picture is not included in Babbitt's book. Approx.
15.
Strength and subtlety of flows. Gravity and the forces that bind matter together are the effects of these two streams. (In modern physics, it is commonly assumed that there are four types of interactions: electromagnetic, strong, weak, and gravitational. At the subatomic level, there are strong and weak interactions, the first is responsible for the connection of particles in the nuclei of atoms, the second is for atomic decay. - Note. Consequently, the influence of the most powerful forces in nature is as gentle and safe as possible, and invisible elements control the visible.
16.
Illness and health. The key to health is to achieve a balance between the magnetic and electrical forces acting in the human body. All diseases occur due to imbalance. If a person has too much magnetism or heat, then this can provoke fever or various inflammations. Conversely, if a person has too much electricity or cold, you can feel chills, paralysis or any chronic diseases.
17.
Measurement of force. The scale below starts with weaker and coarser elements and shows the path to stronger and thinner ones:
POSITIVE. Fire, Heat, Earth Magnetism, Vital (Life) Magnetism.
NEGATIVE. Ice, Water, Steam, Electricity in Batteries, Vital Electricity.
18.
The human aura is a combination of vital electricity and vital magnetism. It is much thinner than the electricity we find in a charged battery and has a greater ability to penetrate dense objects. As the body and soul of a person are purified, his aura is further refined, especially when moving from the lower to the higher parts of the human brain. See paragraphs 51, 54, 55. A healthy physically and mentally human body radiates such an aura, which can become a very effective medical tool. Such a vital force strengthens both the body and the mind. Touching the hand is the best way to transmit this healing life force. The effectiveness of the touch can be increased by the corresponding effort of the healer’s will, but this is not always necessary. A healthy body emits aura constantly and in all directions, especially its magnetic component. This radiation has such a high penetrating ability that touching is no longer necessary to achieve a healing effect. The author of these lines sometimes cured headaches and other severe pains simply by being with the unfortunate person in the same room, and at this time there were other people in the same room, which did not interfere with the treatment. See paragraph 120 et al. (Also on this effect can be read in the article "Field of Buddha" - approx.
19.
Which method of treatment is safest? The purer the substance taken and the closer it is to the etheric state, the greater the effectiveness and safety of its use. For example, using potassium as an alkali would allow its electricity to be used to treat an inflamed stomach; however, potassium’s low purity leads to severe side effects. It is therefore much better to use electricity itself than the elements containing it. Now suppose the body is in a negative, cold state. Alcoholic drinks contain a warming principle, but they also poison the body, doing more harm than good. It is therefore much better to find a purer magnetic heat element. Whatever medicines are taken, the purer and gentler they are, the more likely the digestive system is to assimilate them, and the less likely they are to have harmful side effects.
20.
Magnetic materials. Many materials can be given magnetic or psychokinetic properties. To do this, it is necessary to charge them, directing to them with rapid movements and willpower the subtle essences of the human soul and body. And here (in the United States - approx. per.) and in Europe, such experiments led to remarkable healings of patients from severe ailments. For example, you can charge ordinary paper so much that to achieve a healing effect it will be enough to put several layers of it on the affected area. Dr. Arthur Lutz (Arthur Lutze), a homeopath from the city of Koeten (Germany), who accepted only in 1860- year 153 881 patient, said (Arthur Lutz (1813-1870) A well-known German homeopath who founded a large homeopathic clinic and spa in Germany. Most likely, Edwin Babbitt, under the specified number of patients, does not enter his personal reception, but the number of visitors to this clinic.):
"A few years ago I did one study on animal magnetism and then tested it experimentally several times. It turned out that magnetism of this kind has a huge life-giving power and can significantly improve our health... Everyone who visited my clinic found that from my touch, breathing or even words, his pains were significantly reduced... The life-giving magnetic force can also be transmitted through inanimate objects: clean water, crushed sugar, wood, etc. I have irrefutable evidence of the most wonderful healing effects that came from powdered sugar or a glass of water, which I deliberately touched ... To give another example: the poisonous components of the drug can be removed by diluting it, but a kind of specific principle, so to speak, the soul of the drug, not only remains, but is miraculously excited when the vessel is shaken and the magnetic force is applied to it. As a result, the drug is more effective on upset nerves." - "Guide to homeopathic treatment", p. 34.
If you magnetize Manila (a low-cost type of paper made from semi-white wood fibers - approx. pen) or other paper, you can extract a number of important for subsequent study points. See the examples below:
a. Early in the morning, when the air was magnetized and electrified, I tried to rub various objects about the paper and found that after that it acquired the ability to stick to walls or other surfaces. In addition, it adheres well to the human hand.
b. Electrically active mediums with pale skin and a cool calm character charge the paper better than temperamental people of color. In pale ones, it sticks to the walls for a longer period. In addition, the rough electric aura of the foot has a greater ability to charge paper than the magnetic aura of the hands. I saw myself as Dr. Wilbur was lifting a newspaper with a few sheets of cigarette paper magnetized to it. According to the law of affinity harmony, electrical elements attract magnetic elements well.
c. If you magnetize two layers of paper together, then according to the principle of analogous harmony, magnetism will make them reach for each other if they are placed close enough. If the same sheets of paper are magnetized separately, then under the same conditions they will be repelled.
d. Magnetized paper can be glued to the wall, but if you remove it and magnetize again, it will not stick better. To repeat the effect of sticking, the paper should be demagnetized, giving it some time to lie down or holding it near the fire, and only then re-charge.
e. The right hand will draw the magnetised paper away from the left; all other things being equal, a more strong-willed person will draw it away from a less strong-willed one. Several times I watched one lady draw the paper from another lady’s hand, until the latter became determined and stopped the process by an effort of will. A good example of how a living soul can control dead matter.
f. One day I magnetized the paper and glued it to the wall. She stayed up all night and half the next day. At the same time, another similar sheet of paper remained on the corner of the mantelpiece for almost two days and two nights. Magnetized through glass or other rough materials, the paper will not hold its charge for long. A subtle psychic aura is too subtle for the manifestation of force in gross matter, but it can nevertheless manifest its residual effect on paper for a large number of years, as has been proved by psychometry (see paragraph 72). Therefore, magnetized paper is one of the most effective tools for treating diseases in people with a subtle mental organization.
g. The therapeutic effect of drugs is greatly enhanced after their magnetization (psychomization). The same applies to food, it becomes not only more pleasant to taste, but also more healthy if it was prepared by specialists with a healthy and strong psyche. Rough and ignorant people cannot give food these qualities. In addition, an open fire can lower the level of mental magnetic charge of this food. When wealthy people begin to treat their subordinates with the same tenderness as members of their families, the result will be a new class of effective and sophisticated leaders, and harmony and health will reign in society (see paragraphs 53 and 54).
h. Dr. Newton (J.R.) Newton wrote to me: “I have always preferred to treat children through the clothes that their parents or friends brought me. Of the thousands of cases treated in this way, there were no unsuccessful cases.
i. Water is an excellent conductor and storehouse of psychic energy. "Mesmer (Mesmer) argued that water can be magnetized well, but this idea was ridiculed ... The experiments of Reichenbach (Reichenbach) confirmed the correctness of this idea and established it as the basis of scientific theories." - Mental Medicine. (Probably here we are talking about the German doctor and healer, the creator of the doctrine of vital magnetism - " (1734-1815). – Approx.)
